Summer Camp at Lake Issyk Kul is such a wonderful experience each year for the youth and young adults, as well as for our American, Kyrgyz, and Afghan teams. Of course there are many beach activities like swimming, volleyball, the “banana” (big yellow float that is pulled by a boat on the lake), and more teambuilding fun. Issyk Kul means “warm lake” in Kyrgyz, but its location surrounded by mountains means the water is pretty cool–about 70F.
The students presented about their country of origin. They rented traditional dresses from Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan, shared about their favorite foods, dancing, art, and many other things. In addition, Elizabeth was able to share about life in Texas, including school life at University of Texas Arlington. Benjamin also gave insight about attending university and of course many of the students showed interest in studying hard in hopes of studying abroad at UTA in Arlington, TX.
Time was spent doing fun games and crafts, like guess which soda pop. Looks like the winners got some tasty drink prizes.
They also shared great local Kygyz food at the dining hall for each meal.
The last day was spent in the beautiful Ala Archa Park, a part of the Tien Shan Mountains.
They had a picnic by the water and spent time together walking and serving one another.
Das Vedanya! Khod Hafiz! Good bye! Until Next time!
